Day 2
Perth - Margaret River - Perth
Itinerary details
Starting from central Perth, drive along the picturesque South Coast Highway to Busselton Jetty. This 1.8-kilometer wooden pier is one of the largest jetties in the Southern Hemisphere. Beneath it lies the Indian Ocean, as blue and calm as a mirror, and all around is a relaxed seaside landscape, like stepping into a tranquil coastal painting. Then drive into the Margaret River region to visit local wineries and taste wines nurtured by sunshine and time. In the afternoon, walk through the enchanting Boranup Forest, where towering Karri giants form an avenue and you can experience the untouched natural forest scenery. Arrive at Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, the southwesternmost point of Australia. This historic lighthouse stands where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean, having guarded the busy coastal traffic along Australia's shoreline. After the visit, return to Perth.

In the morning, depart from Perth. Next, visit the unique Greyhound Cemetery, and along the way, depending on the season, enjoy panoramic horizon views of the Wheatbelt, Western Australia's wheat-growing region. In the afternoon, come to the uniquely shaped Hippo's Yawn rock, a boulder named for its shape resembling a yawning hippopotamus. Then arrive at the spectacular Wave Rock, a naturally formed rock wall about 15 meters high and 110 meters long, as if giant waves were about to crash onto the land; its curves and textures are astonishing and prove the wonders of nature. At the end of the journey, visit Mukka Cave, which contains ancient Aboriginal rock art, and in the evening depart to return to Perth.
