Itinerary details
Depart from Reykjavík to visit three major attractions along Iceland’s Golden Circle: Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area, and Gullfoss. We’ll also make special stops to explore the charming geothermal town of Hveragerði and the vibrant Kerið crater! At the end of an adventurous day filled with unique scenery, we’ll drop you off back in Reykjavík. 【Hveragerði Town】(Hveragerði) After about a 40-minute drive, we’ll stop in the charming town of Hveragerði, known for its geothermal activity. Steam rises from the surrounding hills, creating a unique landscape. Thanks to the natural warmth, local residents can grow a variety of plants easily and affordably. Hot water runs beneath the town, so many residents can even enjoy a hot spring in their own backyards. Geothermal energy keeps greenhouse plants flourishing year-round, making Hveragerði one of the few places at such a high latitude where bananas are grown! We’ll pause here to enjoy some tasty treats from a local bakery before continuing our journey. 【Kerið Volcanic Crater】(Kerid volcano crater) Also known as the “Eye of the World,” this is a breathtaking volcanic crater. It formed after a volcanic eruption more than 6,500 years ago. The eruption caused the volcano to collapse, leaving behind a beautiful blue lake. The bright turquoise water contrasts with the red volcanic rock, making this a must-see attraction. The crater is about 886 feet (270 meters) wide, with steep walls reaching 180 feet (55 meters) high. From the crater’s rim, you can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding landscape and distant mountains. You can also take a 20-minute walk around the lake and capture beautiful photos. 【Gullfoss】 Meltwater from Langjökull, Iceland’s second-largest glacier, plunges into a canyon to form the majestic “Golden Falls.” On a sunny day, you can see Langjökull in the distance and admire a rainbow in the waterfall’s mist! 【Geysir Geothermal Area】 The Geysir geothermal area is home to hundreds of colorful hot springs and two geysers. One is called “Geysir,” the source of the English word “geyser,” but it no longer erupts. The other, Strokkur, erupts every 4 to 10 minutes, reaching heights of up to 40 meters. Each eruption lasts about 1–2 minutes before gradually subsiding. This cycle repeats over and over, creating a magnificent spectacle. 【Þingvellir National Park】 Þingvellir National Park is an important place to enjoy natural scenery and explore history. The park lies in the rift between the North American and Eurasian plates, and is also a significant testament to Iceland’s national history. Icelanders established their parliament here in 930 AD and held their annual meeting here each summer. The word “Þingvellir” itself means “parliament plains.” After exploring, we’ll drive for 40 minutes back to Reykjavík, where the tour ends. *The tour lasts approximately 8 hours. No guide information is provided for this route. Please refer to your confirmation for the pickup location.
