Itinerary details
Our adventure begins at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. The lagoon is fed by meltwater from Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, and is expanding rapidly as the glacier melts. Icebergs break off from the edge of the glacier (a process known as “calving”), drift slowly across the water, and flow into the Atlantic Ocean. This ever-changing landscape is a photographer’s dream, so get your camera ready! From Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, you’ll take a Super Jeep on an off-road adventure to the edge of the glacier. After a short walk, your guide will lead you into a naturally formed ice cave—a dreamlike world of deep-blue ice. Explore the cave at your own pace while learning how these seasonal formations develop from meltwater tunnels and freeze into magical shapes. After approximately 2–3 hours, you’ll return to the glacier lagoon. Please note: Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is approximately 379 km (235 miles) from Reykjavik, about a 5-hour drive in good road conditions. Winter weather may affect travel times, so we strongly recommend staying nearby before and after your tour. 【No guide information is provided for this itinerary. Please refer to your confirmation for the meeting time and location.】
Important notes
Please note: Ice caves are ever-changing natural phenomena and can only be entered in winter, when temperatures drop below freezing and the rivers beneath the glacier freeze, leaving behind wonders for us to explore. New, unique ice caves form in different locations each year. During this tour, we’ll visit a naturally formed ice cave. The cave selected for each visit will depend on its condition and safety. Note: All times shown on this webpage are for reference only. Actual arrival times may be delayed due to circumstances beyond our control, such as weather, traffic congestion, traffic accidents, festivals or sporting events, civil unrest, or strikes. We appreciate your understanding. If you have onward travel plans involving other transportation to another city, we strongly recommend allowing at least 3 hours of extra time to avoid inconvenience caused by delays. Our company accepts no responsibility for losses arising from travel arrangements you make yourself without allowing sufficient extra time. Thank you for your understanding.
