Itinerary details
The minibus Northern Lights tour is one of our most popular winter trips. Based on the aurora and cloud forecasts, we do our best to maximize your chances of seeing the Northern Lights dancing across the night sky. Because Iceland is close to the Arctic Circle and the magnetic pole, auroral activity here is exceptionally strong in the Northern Hemisphere. Your Northern Lights tour begins with an exciting chase. After your guide picks you up in Reykjavik, get ready to search for the aurora. You’ll travel to places with extraordinary starry skies. As the weather forecast changes daily, unfortunately we can’t tell you exactly where your tour will take you. But one thing is guaranteed—we’ll take you away from the city lights! We may visit Hvalfjörður, Þingvellir, Reykjanes, or other rural areas in southern Iceland far from light pollution. Traveling by minibus means we can reach remote places that large buses cannot. The Northern Lights can appear at any time, and they are breathtaking. They may start out very subtly, but before you know it, they stretch and expand across the sky in swirling, dancing patterns. Whether vivid or subtle, they are always awe-inspiring—a surreal and unique sight. Green and yellow auroras are especially common. Blue, purple, and rose-colored auroras are less frequent, but just as breathtaking. Red auroras are rare, but more common in Iceland than anywhere else in the world. On our minibus tour, your guide will take a complimentary photo of you with the Northern Lights, which you can view online after the trip. *This tour lasts approximately 4 hours
