Itinerary details
At 18:45, the group will meet at the pier next to Skarven Kro restaurant in Tromsø (Kaigata 6). Shortly afterwards, we’ll depart Tromsø by cruise ship in search of the Northern Lights in the dark. Thanks to our electric engines, we’ll glide silently into the darkness of Tromsø Fjord. You can order a local craft beer from Graff or a carefully selected glass of wine, then settle into a seat by the panoramic windows and quietly enjoy the scenery along the cruise route. During the cruise, we’ll enjoy a special dinner from a local Tromsø restaurant. Our dinner features fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced locally and combines modern flavours with inspiration from traditional North Norwegian cuisine. Our host will explain the importance of fishing to Tromsø and Northern Norway, and the role it plays in the region. Dining menu Brim Explorer has an exclusive partnership with Restaurant Einer, whose talented team of chefs specialises in creating exquisite Norwegian cuisine. Starter: pickled herring Every winter, countless herring enter the fjords of Northern Norway, bringing life to the waters around Tromsø. This migration attracts not only local fishermen but also whales coming to feed—a spectacular sight we’re fortunate to witness on our daily whale-watching trips. Herring is a traditional Scandinavian food, especially at Christmas, symbolising Norway’s connection to the sea and the seasons. We honour this tradition by serving fresh herring with local potatoes, dill and a little onion, offering the fresh, rich flavours of a winter fjord. Main course: Arctic cod In Northern Norway, cod is more than just food—it is a symbol of survival and perseverance. Every winter, Skrei cod begins an extraordinary migration from the Barents Sea. This journey gives its flesh a firmer texture and richer flavor than cod caught at other times of the year. This unique fish is a cornerstone of Northern Norwegian culture, exported around the world and cherished locally. To showcase its natural flavor, Restaurant Einer prepares a refined blue mussel sauce with local apple juice, honoring Norwegian traditions while creating a delicious dish rooted in the land and the season. Dessert: Apple and cinnamon panna cotta In Scandinavia, preserving milk is an art, and Norway’s answer is rømme, a tangy, fermented cream that carries on tradition while offering delicious flavor. Our dessert draws inspiration from classic Scandinavian flavors to create a custard topped with tangy Norwegian apples and crushed cardamom. This dessert offers a sweet, authentic taste of the North.
