Grassy riverbanks, a turning watermill, and clear streams create a peaceful atmosphere free from crowds and noise. The River Windrush runs through the village of Bourton-on-the-Water, with five stone arch bridges crossing it, all built from local Cotswold stone. The oldest of the five bridges, called “The Mill Bridge,” was built in 1654 and is located at the westernmost point of the River Windrush. Thanks to these bridges, Bourton-on-the-Water is known as the “Venice” of the Cotswolds.

The houses are at least 400 years old, and honey-coloured stone cottages stand in rows. The most famous are the Arlington Row cottages. Arlington Row in front of them has also appeared in several films and TV shows, most notably Stardust and Bridget Jones’s Diary.
