Itinerary details
Join us in Salzburg for an unforgettable journey to the Eagle's Nest! With our skip-the-line tickets, you can easily visit this historic landmark—Kehlsteinhaus, commonly known as the “Eagle's Nest.” This emblematic Nazi-era building, at an elevation of 1,834 meters (6,017 feet), has now been converted into a scenic restaurant. Weather permitting, you can enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the Alps and Salzburg from here. A duet of history and nature Discover the legendary history of Germany's Eagle's Nest on an unforgettable guided tour! Built in the 1930s atop Mount Kehlstein in the Bavarian Alps, this building was originally a gift to Hitler. Today, you can: ✓ Explore Hitler's secret retreat with skip-the-line access ✓ Hear hidden stories from the Third Reich ✓ Take in the stunning peaks of the Berchtesgaden Alps from the observation deck Today, the Eagle's Nest is a unique place where historical reflection meets natural wonder: • A historic building transformed into a mountaintop restaurant and observation deck • Located on Mount Kehlstein, a spur of the Göll mountain range in the Berchtesgaden Alps • An immersive World War II history experience and panoramic Alpine views Eagle's Nest tour itinerary: This trip starts at Mirabellplatz in Salzburg, travels along the Alpine Road (Alpenstraße) into Bavaria, and ends at Obersalzberg. Upon arrival, you'll transfer to a specially designed mountain bus and wind your way up an exclusive 6.5-kilometer (4-mile) road, 4 meters (12 feet) wide, with a gradient of up to 22%. The mountain road to the Eagle's Nest is a modern engineering marvel—this one-of-a-kind road in the world was blasted through solid granite in just 13 months. Its ingenious design combines a single hairpin bend with five mountain tunnels to conquer an elevation gain of 800 meters (2,625 feet), with a maximum gradient of an astonishing 27%. It was hailed by Engineering News-Record as “the boldest infrastructure project in the Alps.” The final leg of the journey includes: ✓ Passing through a 124-meter (406-foot) granite tunnel ✓ Riding a luxuriously decorated bronze elevator (a 41-second vertical ascent of 124 meters directly into the Eagle's Nest) The ultimate experience At the Eagle's Nest observation deck, 1,834 meters (6,017 feet) above sea level: • Take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the Alps • Discover the flora and fauna of the high mountains • Get a close-up view of the summit cross Return journey arrangements Before returning to Salzburg, we will stop in Berchtesgaden, where you can explore the enchanting scenery of this fairytale town at your leisure. Alternative plan: If the Eagle’s Nest is temporarily closed, the itinerary will be adjusted to include a visit to the Documentation Center Obersalzberg and its underground bunker complex.
