Delphi, 150 kilometers from Athens, was a sacred site in ancient Greece, known as the “center of the Earth” and the “navel of the world.” It was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1987. The site mainly comprises the Temple of Apollo, the Temple of Athena, a theater, a training ground and a stadium. Best known is the Temple of Apollo, the ancient Greek god of the sun, light and youth, who presided over music, poetry, medicine and livestock. To determine the center of the Earth, Zeus sent two eagles flying toward each other from opposite ends of the world. They met at Delphi, so Zeus declared it the center and placed a round stone there as a marker.

Arachova is perched on a rugged spur of Mount Parnassus, at an elevation of 960 meters and 12 kilometers from Delphi. In ancient Greek mythology, Mount Parnassus was a sacred mountain, home to Apollo, the god of the sun, and the Muses.
