Day 3
Drake Passage
Itinerary details
At sea—southbound across the Drake Passage We’ll reach the Antarctic Convergence on the third day of our voyage. As we sail south into Antarctic waters, watch the mercury plunge—a sudden drop in temperature that marks the meeting of Antarctic waters with the warmer waters of the Atlantic and Pacific. As the sea cools, wildlife abounds; these are some of the most biologically productive waters on Earth, so expect to see plenty of petrels and albatrosses, and possibly penguins, seals, and whales. Weather permitting, we may land in the South Shetland Islands—a small but spectacular archipelago north of the Antarctic Peninsula—on the second afternoon in the Drake Passage, marking the start of our exploration of the last continent.

Thank you for your understanding.
