The Seven Sisters are a series of chalk sea cliffs along the English Channel, formed by coastal erosion along the South Downs in East Sussex, southeastern England. The dips separating the seven cliff tops are remnants of dry valleys in the chalk South Downs, which are being continuously eroded by the sea. It is said that the white cliffs are the most striking feature of Britain when viewed from mainland Europe, and they are considered a symbol of England. The Seven Sisters White Cliffs are so named because seven continuous chalk cliffs stand together like pure-hearted, close-knit sisters.
