The Selarón Steps (Portuguese: Escadaria Selarón) are a famous colorful staircase in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, created by Chilean artist Jorge Selarón. Connecting the neighborhoods of Lapa and Santa Teresa, the steps have 215 stairs and stretch approximately 125 meters. Starting in 1990, Selarón decorated the steps piece by piece with colorful tiles, transforming them into a vibrant public artwork.
