Also known as Preikestolen, or Pulpit Rock, because its shape resembles a church preacher’s pulpit. Located in the middle of Lysefjord, this naturally formed giant rock platform rises 604 meters above the fjord below and projects more than 30 meters from the adjoining mountain ridge. It stands dramatically amid the rugged mountains deep in the fjord, creating a spectacular and astonishing sight. The flat rock surface covers approximately 600 square meters. The hiking trail to Pulpit Rock is 3.8 kilometers long, with an ascent of approximately 330 meters from the starting point. Red T-shaped trail markers are placed along the route. The round trip takes approximately 4–5 hours and is of moderate difficulty. Pulpit Rock was ranked first among the world’s 50 most spectacular sights selected by a travel and lifestyle website affiliated with CNN in the United States. It is also one of the best viewpoints for overlooking Lysefjord and appreciating the beauty of the fjord.
