Day 3
Queenstown
Itinerary details
Enjoy a free day exploring Queenstown after breakfast. With a full day at leisure, choose a fjord adventure, a Lord of the Rings expedition, or a helicopter flight, and discover your adventurous side: A. Milford Sound: The road to Milford Sound is considered one of the most scenic alpine highways in the world. It winds through New Zealand’s pristine temperate rainforest and passes Eglinton Valley, the country’s largest natural grassland, Mirror Lakes, and the 1.27-kilometer Homer Tunnel. Milford Sound is a natural wonder: a deep, dramatic valley carved by glacial movement two million years ago. Take a leisurely cruise through the fjord and enjoy a buffet meal while admiring the spectacular scenery. See waterfalls cascading down snow-covered mountains on either side, and feel the cool mist from the glacial water up close. Alongside the incredible natural scenery, you may also spot seals at close range. If you’re lucky, dolphins may swim alongside the boat to greet you! B. Nomad Off-Road Adventure: Queenstown’s four-wheel-drive adventure specialists take you across the Wakatipu Basin to experience New Zealand’s unique backcountry trails! Travel from peaceful farms to thrilling canyons, country lanes to rushing rivers, and historic towns to the Remarkables mountain range. Follow Lord of the Rings filming locations and trace the gold-mining trails, with a chance to try your hand at gold panning! Or drive along the Glenorchy–Queenstown Road, one of New Zealand’s most beautiful routes, admire the lakeside scenery of Lake Wakatipu, explore charming Glenorchy, and linger amid the unspoiled natural beauty of Paradise Valley. The tour lasts 3–4 hours. C. Jet Boat: The world’s first commercial jet boat operator, established in 1960. The 43-kilometer, one-hour ride travels across Lake Wakatipu and along the Kawarau and Shotover Rivers. Departures leave from Queenstown’s main town wharf on the hour. Waterproof clothing and life jackets are provided free of charge. Free admission to the Queenstown Underwater Observatory. Activity photos are available. Airport and hotel transfers can be arranged for groups on request.

Day 4
Queenstown - Wanaka - Tekapo
Itinerary details
After breakfast, visit Arrowtown, 21 km from Queenstown. Many of Arrowtown’s historic landmarks are exceptionally well preserved, and some are still in everyday use. Stroll along the Arrow River and reflect on the hardships endured by the thousands of Chinese miners who once lived here; their simple village still stands beside the river. Buckingham Street is the town’s main thoroughfare and reflects the locals’ efforts to preserve its former prosperity. Historic buildings line the street, now home to a variety of shops and restaurants. In the afternoon, head to Lake Wanaka, New Zealand’s fourth-largest lake, and get up close to the “loneliest tree.” The majestic Southern Alps surround Lake Wanaka, where you can immerse yourself in this secluded paradise. Take a lakeside stroll, admire the crystal-clear water, and soak up the local atmosphere. Then head to Tekapo, a stargazing town, to admire the beautiful Lake Tekapo, one of the South Island’s finest spots for starry skies and lakeside scenery. The name Tekapo comes from Māori and means “sleeping mat at night”; it is also said to mean a place to sleep beneath the stars. Look up at the sky in Tekapo and watch star clusters sparkle and the Milky Way flow overhead. The experience will feel unlike any other, as if you are surrounded by a river of stars, with your thoughts drifting away. Visit the Church of the Good Shepherd, the most famous landmark on the shores of Lake Tekapo. After a delicious salmon set meal for dinner, stay in a locally styled holiday home by the lake. At this world-famous Dark Sky Reserve, you can gaze at the vast, pristine sea of stars. Open the window that night and look up at the Milky Way cascading overhead, for a romantic “sleep under the stars” experience.

Day 5
Tekapo - Mount Cook - Tekapo
Itinerary details
After breakfast at a lakeside café, head to Mount Cook National Park. En route, stop at a five-star salmon farm in the Southern Hemisphere, where you can sample premium salmon at your own expense. We’ll spend half a day exploring the natural wonders of the national park. Gaze up at the ancient glaciers at the foot of Mount Cook, leave your worries behind, and quietly take in the grandeur of nature. Mount Cook National Park is home to the country’s highest peak and largest glacier, the Tasman Glacier. Under a starlit sky, this pristine alpine world of rugged peaks, vast glaciers, and permanent snowfields stretches from Arthur’s Pass in the south to the Main Divide in the west, right through the most spectacular and picturesque section of the Southern Alps. Weather permitting, you can take an optional helicopter flight to the Tasman Glacier, the largest glacier in the South Pacific, and land on the ice to immerse yourself in the embrace of an ancient glacier. The vast silver landscape feels like a heavenly paradise, bringing you close to the ultimate heights of nature. Optional glacier helicopter flight over or landing on the Tasman Glacier for panoramic views of the ancient ice Enjoy a delicious lunch with scenic views at a Mount Cook restaurant, then return to Tekapo in the afternoon.
