Itinerary details
Your adventure begins in Reykjavik at 8:00 AM. After meeting your group, you’ll travel along the South Coast in a comfortable minibus while your guide shares local stories and provides photography assistance. First, visit Seljalandsfoss, one of the South Coast’s most famous and most visited waterfalls, conveniently located near Reykjavik. This beautiful waterfall is unique thanks to its unusual formation: behind the spectacular 60-meter cascade, a wide cave is hidden in the steep cliff. Visitors can walk behind and around the waterfall for an unforgettable, immersive experience! Just be sure to bring rain gear—you’re likely to get wet from the spray and drizzle! Just 30 minutes from Seljalandsfoss, your journey continues to the magnificent Skógafoss, one of Iceland’s largest and most beautiful waterfalls. Unlike most waterfalls, you can admire Skógafoss from above! Climb around 500 steps up the hillside. It is challenging, but absolutely worth it. At the top, enjoy a unique view of the waterfall and take a stroll along the Skógá River into a magical canyon. After taking in the waterfall’s spectacular scenery, you’ll head to lunch. After lunch, get ready for the most exciting activity of the day: a glacier hike on Sólheimajökull! Sólheimajökull is a spectacular outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland’s fourth-largest glacier. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore one of the world’s remaining ice caps. When you arrive at the Sólheimajökull parking area, you’ll meet your expert glacier guide, who will provide all the necessary safety equipment, including crampons, a harness, and an ice axe. The hike begins with a short climb, after which the route becomes relatively easy. Once on the glacier, you’ll witness the grandeur of nature firsthand: enormous crevasses cutting through the ice, and rare icebergs floating in a nearby lagoon, formed when large chunks of ice break off from the glacier. After your glacier adventure, the final stop on your journey will be the breathtaking Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, an iconic attraction on Iceland’s South Coast. Reynisfjara’s unique landscape has taken millions of years to form, as lava from volcanic eruptions gradually eroded to create the fine black sand you see today. You’ll take in stunning geological wonders, including enormous hexagonal basalt columns. These rare, perfectly geometric rock columns formed as lava cooled slowly, and structures this long and sturdy are extremely rare elsewhere in the world. From the beach, you’ll have a clear view of the magnificent Dyrhólaey cliffs, which combine with the surrounding scenery to create a breathtaking panorama. In summer, this is a paradise for birdwatchers, providing nesting grounds for puffins, razorbills, and dozens of other seabirds. Afterwards, we’ll head back to Reykjavík, arriving at around 8:00 p.m. * Guests are advised to be ready at the designated pickup location at 8:00 a.m. and wait for the bus to arrive between approximately 8:05 and 8:45 a.m., depending on road and weather conditions. * For comfort and safety, we strongly recommend wearing layers and a waterproof jacket rather than heavy clothing.
