Day 2
Christchurch - Arthur’s Pass - Punakaiki/Greymouth
Itinerary details
After breakfast, board the Alpine Scenic Train (limited to 10 guests), ranked among the world’s ten most beautiful rail journeys. Travel through the Canterbury Plains, the Waimakariri Valley and the Southern Alps, enjoying views of glacier-fed turquoise rivers, dense forests and majestic mountains along the way. On arrival at Arthur’s Pass, meet your guide and continue west to Shantytown, a themed town recreating the 19th-century gold rush. Combining history, interactive experiences and education, it is one of the West Coast’s most representative cultural attractions. Follow your guide through vintage buildings such as the old post office, blacksmith shop and barbershop, and feel transported to the gold-rush era. Take a vintage steam train (12:30 pm/2:00 pm) through native forest and historic gold-mining sites, with a stop along the way where you can get off and take photos. Try your hand at gold panning, and each guest will receive a bottle of “gold dust” as a souvenir! In the evening, check in to your hotel in Punakaiki or Greymouth and relax. The departure on September 25, 2026, has been cancelled. As the Alpine Scenic Train is undergoing maintenance, this part of the itinerary will be replaced with a scenic drive. The tour price has been adjusted accordingly. Thank you for your understanding.

Day 3
Greymouth/Punakaiki - Glacier Country - Haast
Itinerary details
After breakfast, visit the Pancake Rocks, a geological wonder on the West Coast. The limestone layers are stacked like pancakes, and millions of years of waves and wind have sculpted them into remarkable shapes. Waves surge into the rock caverns and send columns of water soaring several metres into the air, like natural fountains. The scenic coastal walkway is one of New Zealand’s most iconic geological attractions. Continue south along Highway 6 towards Fox Glacier. The route winds through the world-famous, rain-soaked West Coast rainforest, where pristine forest, streams, cliffs and glacier mist combine to create spectacular scenery. Weather permitting, stop at a glacier viewing platform to admire the turquoise river formed by melting glacier ice. Arrive in Haast in the evening. Known as the “southern gateway” connecting the West Coast with the southern lakes region, Haast is a pristine place with an unspoiled ecosystem. Tonight, enjoy a West Coast specialty dinner featuring the local favourite whitebait fritter, made with fresh West Coast whitebait and lightly fried in egg. The meal also includes an American-style burger and crispy fries, offering generous portions and something to suit every taste. Savour local flavours as you reminisce about the day’s adventures. *Ingredients may be adjusted seasonally and replaced with other delicious dishes. Thank you for your understanding.

In the afternoon, drive along the picturesque Crown Range Road, one of New Zealand’s highest roads. Rolling valleys and sweeping lake and mountain views unfold along the way, like a postcard brought to life. Arrive in the honeymoon town of Queenstown in the early evening.
