Itinerary details
Puerto Williams is a Chilean city on Navarino Island, on the southern shore of the Beagle Channel. It claims to be “the southernmost city in the world,” but because it is small, with a population of around 2,500, the Argentine city of Ushuaia, on the northern shore of the same channel, also claims the title. The surrounding scenery is magnificent. Windswept mountains rise above the tree line and are often covered in snow. The city itself has a dramatic backdrop called “Dientes de Navarino” (literally “Navarino’s Teeth”), which rivals the famous Torres del Paine to the north. The area was originally inhabited by the Yaghan people, hunter-gatherers who, despite enduring the region’s harsh climate, could not withstand the arrival of Europeans. The present-day city was established as a naval base in 1953 and named in honor of John Williams Wilson, a 19th-century British-Chilean naval commander. Initially, it was used to protect the region’s territorial and fishing rights and provide logistical support for Antarctic bases. More recently, it has become a departure point for scientific and tourism expeditions to the Antarctic region. Compared with the bustle and traffic of highly commercialized Ushuaia, Puerto Williams offers a quieter, more relaxed experience. It charms visitors with the feel of a small village, rustic buildings, and the homey scent of wood smoke drifting through the air. A peaceful haven at the end of the world.

Drake Passage
Itinerary details
Sailing across the legendary Drake Passage is an experience few are lucky enough to have. The southern tip of the Americas already feels like a wild enough place—but watching the distant cliffs of the peninsula known as the “End of the World” disappear over the horizon is an epic, surreal, and magical feeling. Set sail, slowly descending from Cape Horn to the bottom of the map, and explore Antarctica’s icy underworld. The Drake Passage is an extraordinary voyage steeped in romantic seafaring legend, as your destination is the frozen wilderness of Antarctica. On arrival, skyscraper-sized icebergs greet you, while snow-dwelling creatures such as penguins and whales roam undisturbed through these waters. Your first glimpse of this most untouched place will likely be the South Shetland Islands. Follow in the footsteps of history’s greatest and bravest explorers as you discover famous icy landscapes such as Elephant Island and Deception Island. If crossing the Drake Passage sounds daunting, don’t worry—even in rough seas, you won’t be alone. This thrilling adventure is often accompanied by soaring albatrosses, and perhaps even the protective company of humpback whales and hourglass dolphins. Warm and cool ocean currents converge here, attracting some spectacular animals. If this is your first visit to this magical continent, you’ll also want to read our blog to prepare for your first trip to Antarctica.

Day 4
Antarctic Bay
Itinerary details
Few voyages capture the imagination like a journey to Antarctica, one of the most remote, extreme, and captivating wildernesses on Earth. This is adventure in its purest form, and only a fortunate few get to experience the magnificent beauty of these monochrome landscapes firsthand. Antarctic Sound will be your first encounter with this white kingdom at the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, which reaches like a tentacle toward Tierra del Fuego, at the southernmost tip of South America, also known as the “End of the World.” The sound is named after the first ship to bravely navigate the passage between the peninsula and the Joinville Island group in 1902. It offers a raw, sensory encounter with iceberg slabs calved from the Larsen Ice Shelf. Come face to face with icebergs the size of stadiums and encounter extraordinary birdlife that calls this white kingdom home. Watch Gentoo penguins hop about and petrels skim overhead as the continent’s unique wildlife thrives all around you. If you’re planning your first Antarctic expedition, you’ll want to brush up on your photography skills beforehand to capture the boundless splendor of this unforgiving continent.

Antarctic Peninsula
Itinerary details
The Antarctic Peninsula stretches north toward South America, extending an enticing finger to adventurers daring enough to explore this untamed land. Reaching out from the heart of the world's southernmost continent, the Antarctic Peninsula lies just 620 miles from Tierra del Fuego. For many, it offers a spectacular first glimpse of the least-explored continent on Earth, with its snow-covered landscapes and colossal ice sculptures. This sight remained unseen by humans until 1820—a recent discovery, in relative terms. Experiencing the thrill of the truly unknown and extraordinary is sure to send a shiver down your spine. Research stations are scattered across the vast peninsula, at the forefront of scientific endeavor and dedicated to studying and understanding this unique landscape, its distinctive wildlife, and humanity's impact on this pristine continent. Get up close to cathedral-sized icebergs and blue glaciers as they slowly slide down from spectacular places such as Hope Bay. Snow-white peaks cover the peninsula, where you can find thousands of adorable pairs of Adélie penguins thriving in this unique environment.

South of the Antarctic Circle
Itinerary details
The Antarctic Circle is an imaginary line based on the Earth's axial tilt of 66°33'44.8". By definition, all areas south of the Antarctic Circle are part of Antarctica. Ships exploring the Antarctic Peninsula will attempt to pass through the Biscoe Islands on their way to Marguerite Bay. There are very few scientific stations or bases south of the Antarctic Circle, as ice conditions make it difficult to transport people, supplies, and provisions by ship. Argentina and the United Kingdom both have permanent stations in Marguerite Bay, while Chile has a summer station at the entrance to the bay. The main attraction here is the very reason it is so difficult to reach: a landscape and seascape covered in snow and ice

South Shetland Islands
Itinerary details
The snow-covered Antarctic Peninsula may be the most accessible part of the continent of Antarctica. It lies just 480 miles from South America, across the legendary Drake Passage. The South Shetland Islands lie near the northwestern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, separated from it by the Bransfield Strait. They fall under the jurisdiction of the Antarctic Treaty, which suspends claims to sovereignty. Several countries have established research bases here, where plump elephant seals live, and colonies of Gentoo, Chinstrap, and Adélie penguins call the islands home—sometimes making them feel a little crowded. King George Island is the largest and most welcoming, and is home to most of the research stations, some of which are occupied year-round by hardy crews. But don't be fooled: these islands offer extraordinary adventures in one of the most remote places on Earth. The three peaks of Mount Foster rise above the archipelago, and your heart will race as you sail into the magnificent collapsed caldera of Deception Island. Hike through the lunar interior, or even swim in the warm geothermal waters of Pendulum Cove. Meanwhile, Elephant Island is deeply woven into the legendary history of Antarctic exploration. In 1916, Ernest Shackleton and the crew of the Endurance miraculously survived a harsh winter in Antarctica
