Itinerary details
08:45 Meet in Florence. 09:00 Depart for Siena, about a 1-hour 20-minute drive, enjoying the Tuscan countryside along the way. 10:20–12:20 Arrive in Siena’s medieval old town and enjoy about 2 hours of free time, including time for lunch at your own expense. Visit Piazza del Campo, also known as Campo Square; Siena Cathedral (exterior only; admission at your own expense); and the old town’s narrow medieval streets, or simply stroll around and take photos. You can also sample local specialties; Tuscan dishes are recommended in the old town, such as Bistecca steak and pasta. Then head to Val d'Orcia, about a 1-hour drive. 13:30–14:10 Arrive in Val d'Orcia and visit the Church of Our Lady of Vitaleta, commonly known as the Little Ears Chapel (Cappella di Vitaleta). Enjoy about 40 minutes of free time and immerse yourself in the setting of Under the Tuscan Sun: a solitary chapel set among rolling hills, especially photogenic when backlit. Then head to Pienza, about a 10-minute drive. 14:20-15:50 Arrive in Pienza, the “ideal city,” and enjoy about 90 minutes of free time. Stroll through the Renaissance town and take in views of Val d'Orcia from the viewpoint. Pienza’s local cheeses and cuisine are also well worth trying. 15:50-17:10 Visit the S-curve Cypress Road and the Double Row of Cypress Trees along the way. Stop for photos at the famous cypress avenue (double row of trees), a postcard-perfect Tuscan landmark with its straight, tree-lined road. The S-Curve Cypress is on private property; visitors who are not hotel guests may not enter, so you can only view it from the side, stop, and take photos. Enjoy a distant view of a popular sunset spot in Val d'Orcia, with rolling countryside hills and rows of cypress trees providing a stunning photo backdrop. Sunset is the best time. Around 17:10 Meet for the return journey, bringing a wonderful day to a close. The drive takes about 1 hour 40 minutes. Arrive in Florence around 19:00. End of the tour.
