Itinerary details
Set off on a reverse-route day trip along the Great Ocean Road. Leave the usual route behind and depart from central Melbourne, heading for coastal gems along the inland highway. After taking in the stunning seaside scenery, return to Melbourne along the scenic coastline for a different Great Ocean Road experience. Depart from central Melbourne between 07:00 and 07:30 in the morning and stop briefly in the town of Colac to rest and ease the fatigue of the journey. Then head to the famous Twelve Apostles, one of the Great Ocean Road’s highlights and most spectacular sights. Walk down the steps from the lookout along the boardwalk and take plenty of time to admire the unique grandeur of the Twelve Apostles. Face the vast South Pacific and see giant limestone formations, sculpted by sea breezes and waves, standing beside the turquoise ocean. Experience the awe-inspiring power of nature and capture unforgettable photos to treasure for a lifetime. Next, visit Loch Ard Gorge and hear about the shipwreck’s history, geology, and coastal ecology. In 1878, the British immigrant ship Loch Ard struck Muttonbird Island here, and only two young people survived. Then travel through dense eucalyptus forests, quietly searching for wild koalas resting in the treetops and encountering Australia’s uniquely charming wildlife. In the afternoon, arrive at the tranquil seaside town of Apollo Bay. With its wide sandy beaches, blue waters, and surrounding green hills, the town forms a harmonious natural landscape. Enjoy lunch at your own expense and take your time soaking up the relaxed atmosphere of this coastal town. After lunch, continue along the Great Ocean Road and stop at the historic Memorial Arch at Eastern View, one of the road’s iconic landmarks, originally erected in memory of the people who built the Great Ocean Road. Then head to the Little Red Lighthouse. Stand beneath the lighthouse and gaze out over the endless blue ocean, with the landscapes of mountains and sea stretching out before you. As the sunset glows, travel back slowly along the breathtaking coastal road, taking in sweeping ocean views and forest scenery. Return to central Melbourne at around 19:00, bringing a memorable day along the Great Ocean Road, surrounded by mountains and sea, to a close. ***Important information*** *The itinerary order and time spent at each stop may change due to objective factors such as the day’s weather and traffic; *As the drive is long, the tour may end late.
