D1 Whitehorse Tour meeting point: Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport
Itinerary details
When you arrive at Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport (YXY), your professional guide will warmly greet you in the arrivals hall, holding a personalized pickup sign. We provide complimentary 24-hour airport pickup, followed by private transportation to your hotel to check in and rest, so you can recharge for your upcoming polar adventure and aurora tour. 【Whitehorse’s Steel Horse Landmark (Whitehorse Horse)】 This towering steel horse sculpture on the hillside is a symbol of Whitehorse. Created by a local artist using recycled metal and assorted tools donated by residents, it represents the Yukon people’s pioneering spirit of unity, perseverance, and resilience as they ventured into the wilderness. 【Yukon River Valley and the SS Klondike】 Stroll along the Yukon River, the third-largest river in North America, and admire this magnificent waterway, fed by glacial meltwater. The SS Klondike National Historic Site, located on the riverbank, is a legendary Yukon landmark. Before roads opened in the mid-20th century, this large coal-fired paddle steamer was a vital link for transporting gold seekers and supplies between Whitehorse and the Dawson City mining district. The tour will take you to see its impressive exterior and relive the glory days of the Klondike Gold Rush. 【Yukon Visitor Information Centre】 This is an informative first stop for travelers entering the mysterious Arctic Circle. Exhibits showcase the region’s rich cultural and natural history, including the history of Indigenous peoples whose ancestors migrated from Asia across the Bering Land Bridge, an abundance of Arctic wildlife whose numbers far exceed the year-round population, and the legendary highway leading to the Arctic Ocean (the Dempster Highway). You can also collect your Arctic Circle certificate here as a perfect memento of your adventure. Meet in the hotel lobby at 10:30 p.m. Our aurora guide will assess the evening’s real-time weather, cloud cover, and aurora index (KP value). A professional driver will take you in a tour vehicle to open-sky locations for an aurora hunt, including Grey Mountain, Schwatka Lake, the Yukon River, and Fish Lake Rest Area, or along the spectacular Alaska Highway and Klondike Highway in search of dark skies free from light pollution. Complimentary hot drinks and delicious local snacks will also be provided, so you can wait in comfort for the Aurora Goddess to dance across the sky.

Immerse yourself in the warm water in subzero temperatures and enjoy a restorative hot-and-cold experience. Winter-Only Arctic Adventures (November to April) 【Alaska Husky Dog Sledding Experience + Light Lunch + Campfire】 (4 hours) Feel the thrill of racing through snow-covered primeval forests, led by energetic husky dogs! This tour includes a hot camp lunch and a cozy forest campfire experience. Fun for both adults and children. 【Traditional Ice Fishing Experience】 Available from January to April only! Join an Arctic expert to drill a hole in the thick ice of a frozen lake and experience the ice-fishing wisdom passed down by Northern Indigenous peoples for thousands of years. Try your luck at catching delicious cold-water trout.
